So last night I finished reading “The One Thing” by Gary Keller. Yes, it was very late (early?) when I finally got to sleep.
I had started this book but got sidetracked. Even at initially starting, I realized this book had serious and meaty value. Even before finishing, I had recommended it to a few people.
Now, after completion, thinking over the concepts and ideas – I recommend every single person read this. Embrace it.
This book is the kind of book that can make a significant impact in your life. It already IS making an impact in my mindset – which in turn affects my life.
Obviously, today is not enough time to see the results, but the process is beginning. I am putting the concepts and ideas in play. It will take someĀ time to build better habits, but build them I will.
Over the years, I have struggled to be organized, I’ve struggled with a lot of things, to be honest. I’ve made changes, I’ve improved. I still have a lot to change and become.
Consider this the next step in my evolution as a better human, and a better man.
I have a number of projects that I want to accomplish and grow in the professional / business arena. When it comes to my personal life, I have goals/projects along with a specific new skill I want to learn.
I’m going to read this book again. I can get better. I NEED to become better. I will, and AM becoming better. But man-oh-man is thereĀ EVER room for so much improvement.
How will I achieve this?
This book is focused on “The One Thing”. This is the one thing, the overall most impactful thing you can do today to reach today’s goal. Which helps you reach this weeks goal. Which helps you reach this months goal. Which helps you reach this year’s goal. Which helps you reach your life goal.
I have shied away from planning specific goals for my life. I DO have goals, but actually planning out and WRITING THEM DOWN was met with enormous internal resistance. I have written things down in the past, but it was in passing, and I did not focus the way I should have.
So this morning, I started with my written list (typed in a text document on my computer). I have some things listed, I’ll come up with more and then I will prioritize.
I don’t think that everything will make the cut. Some things will be less important, and a someday kind of thing. Some things might be a one off. Like, go see this thing, but not an everyday thing.
Ultimately, for me, I have one main goal/objective. I want to be able to travel, working via my laptop. The specifics are still a bit fuzzy, but it is doable. I don’t mean, locked to my laptop 10 hours a day, either. Way more flexible than that. I do enjoy working – but I want to have a balance where I go see and do things. Since when I DO go out and see things and after a few hours I am ready to get back to working on things – I need to work more on scheduling time to pull away from my laptop/phone/electronic device.
I highly encourage you to read, “The One Thing”. If you DO want to read it, let me know. I have an electronic copy I can send you (shhhhh).
I’ll post more updates, let you know how things are progressing.
Remember, life is what you make of it. Like it or not.
I’m going to work on making mine even better.
